Dental lasers work by delivering quick blasts or pulses of heat energy within a very precisely defined area. Laser dentistry for some procedures is more advantageous because it:

- Can be used on both soft and hard tissues

- Promotes faster healing time
- Is painless (causes only very mild discomfort, in some cases)
Laser Therapy for a Variety of Treatments
Gum Contouring is a very common procedure. When the gum tissue is overgrown and hides the full shape or length of a tooth, the extra tissue can be easily vaporized with a laser. Gum contouring produces a beautifully balanced smile.
Bone sculpting can also be done with a laser. By optimizing the shape of the bone we can enhance the smile, producing a more aesthetically pleasing look.
Removing decay with a Waterlase MD is often preferred by our patients over using the traditional dental drill. It can easily remove small areas of decay in the front and back teeth and prepare a tooth for receiving a filling. This is a much more comfortable treatment for our patients who suffer from dental anxiety.
Periodontal treatment is another great solution by laser because it can gently remove periodontal pockets while at the same time destroying bacteria and infection and promoting the growth of healthy tissue.
Mouth ulcers or canker sores can also be treated by means of a laser and produces immediate results. Most of these procedures are gentle enough that we can do them without an injection of any kind. Sometimes a topical anesthetic is all that may be needed to ensure your comfort.
